If there is one comfort food that I would have to say is my favorite it would be Shrimp and Grits.  I tried them them for the first time a couple of years ago in Atlanta GA and was immediately hooked.  After trying several different recipes, I finally came up with one that the whole family loves.  I normally just use sharp cheddar cheese, but this time I added Creamy Havarti and it made a huge difference.  Use the recipe below and make it your own by adding different spices.  Let me know what you think.

Loreal Magic BB Cream Review

I was recently selected by SheSpeaks.com to receive and Review L'Oréal Paris Magic BB Cream.  This was the first time I had ever heard of a BB Cream so I had to research to find out what BB Cream is.

When using the BB Cream the first time,  I really did not like the texture because it feels a bit like sand being rubbed into the skin.  I noticed the color instantly, but my face felt dry afterwards.

On the second try, I changed up the way I used it.  I again washed my face but this time I used my normal moisturizer.  Instead of applying the BB Cream directly to my face I squeezed out a bit onto my fingers and then rubbed them together.  This broke up the beads so that when I applied the cream, it went on much smoother and the color blended much better.

On the weekends I try not to wear a much makeup, but when I have to run errands I will put a little on.  I really liked the BB Cream because I can use it during the weekends.  Last Saturday I was really feeling ill but I needed to run to the store.  I used the BB Cream and it evened out my skin tones so that I did not feel totally makeup free and it made my skin look natural.

Gluten-Free Cooking For Dummies Review

When I requested to receive the Gluten-Free Cooking For Dummies book I had no clue what Gluten-Free even meant. I went online to find out and found myself more confused.  Once I received the book I have to say that once again For Dummies did not let me down.  The simple explanation was a breath of fresh air.

What is Gluten?  Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.  Why should you consider going Gluten-Free? If you have any of the symptoms listed below, it may be a good decision to think about going Gluten-Free.  I fall under four categories and decided I could benefit from at least trying to eliminate Gluten from my diet.

• Headaches or migraines
• Fatigue
• Gastrointestinal distress (gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, reflux)
• Depression and anxiety
• Joint Pain
• Infertility
• Autistic behaviours
• ADD/ADHD behaviours

The first section of this book defines being gluten free and how to prepare to start cooking gluten free.  It points out how to recognize different types of gluten related problems like allergies and gives gluten free alternatives.  It also covers how to get started with shopping and meal planning to make the transition to gluten free easier.

Section Two and Three offer great recipes from main courses to snacks and soups.  Each recipe emphasises nutrition as well as unique ingredients.  All recipes are easy to follow and are delicious one of which I have shared below.

And as expected Part Four finishes off with Part of Tens which gives you ten tips and idea about Gluten-Free Cooking.  
 
Raise your hand if your family love sloppy joes!  We love them and up until now I usually buy a can of premade sloppy joe sauce.  I was excited to find a sloppy joe recipe that is Gluten-Free so this was the first recipe I started with.  It is a once a week menu item now!

Best-Ever Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

1 medium onion

1/4 green pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound lean ground beef

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 tablespoon brown sugar

2 teaspoons cider vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 8-ounce can tomato sauce

Directions:

1. Dice the onion and green pepper.
2. In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper in oil, breaking the meat up with a fork.
3. Stir in the chili powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, cumin, mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato sauce.
4. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often.

Torani Flavored Syrups Review

We drink lots of coffee and tea especially around the winter months.  We use our Keurig machine so often that it seems it never is turned off.  But buying everyone's favorite coffee and tea flavors in the house can become way too expensive.  The best way for everyone to have their favorite flavor is by using Torani Syrups.

I was recently selected to review Torani Syurps through She Speaks.  Torani comes in so many flavors it is almost hard to pick just one.  I chose Peppermint and Vanilla Bean to review.  Vanilla Bean is great and can be used in drinks or use in recipes.  I love putting a little in pancakes and waffles to jazz up the flavor.

My favorite was the peppermint.  It was delicious in tea and even better in Hot Peppermint Schnapps.

I used the Torani Peppermint Syrup in place of Peppermint Schnapps and it turned out great!  You can make this without the alcohol and it makes for a warm treat for the kids as well.

Ingredients:

1 cup chocolate milk, heated
1 jigger Torani Peppermint Syrup 

1/2 jigger vodka
whipped cream
chocolate curls
peppermint stick candy

Directions:

In a mug, combine hot chocolate, syrup, and vodka. Top with whipped cream and chocolate curls and peppermint stick.

Belly Fat Diet For Dummies Review

Struggling with my belly fat has been an ongoing issue for years.  I have tried exercising and cutting back on foods, but never really knew how to successfully get rid of or control my belly fat.  I did not know that stress and Insulin also play a role in the physical causes of belly fat.

Belly Fat Diet for Dummies is another great book in the For Dummies selection that is informative and to the point. I found this book extremely helpful and it gave me hope that I too can get rid of my bell fat and get back into shape and feeling good about my body.

At 119 pounds and 5'3" I do not consider myself over weight, but I am extremely concerned about the belly fat that I have accumulated over the years.  My Triglycerides are off the charts at 590 so this does not help either.  Did you know that even if you are at a healthy body weight that holding excess fat in your stomach area increases your waistline therefore causing greater risk to your health?

Belly Fat or Visceral Fat is toxic and the more you have the more it can damage your organs and cause increased heart disease, diabetes, gallstones, certain types of cancers and even dementia.  I was surprised when I read this.

Belly Fat Diet for Dummies offers great ways to start reducing belly fat by recommending exercises, how to prepare meals and to maintain the loss.  There are three options to chose from to get started.  

1. The Turbo-Charged Plan is for you if you want to get quick and permanent results but is the strictest when it comes to the meal plans.
2. The Moderation Plan is designed who wants a more steady loss without feeling like they are having to stop eating all the things they love.
3. The Gradual-Change Plan is for anyone who is already at a healthy body weight but has excess belly fat.  This plan is the plan I chose because it allows me to make changes at my pace.

I really enjoyed the recipes provided in the book.  They were easy to make and did not cost any more then what I would normally buy to cook around the house.  

One recipe that the entire family enjoyed was the Bean, Ham, and Cheese Breakfast Burrito. I added just a bit of chopped green onion and salsa to make these even more delicious.  I have included the recipe below.

Ingredients:
Nonstick Cooking Spray
4 egg (or 1 cup liquid egg whites)
4 ounces chopped lean ham
2 cups cooked cannelloni beans (or 16-ounce can rinsed and drained)
Four 6-inch 100% whole grain tortillas
4 ounces shredded part-skim cheddar cheese.

Directions:

1. Spray a saute pan with nonstick cooking spray and place over medium heat.
2. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs (or egg whites).  Add to the prepared pan along with the ham and beans.
3. Stir the mixture occasionally until the eggs are fully cooked and scrambled.
4. Place 1/4 of the mixture onto each tortilla and top with 1-ounce of shredded cheese.
5. Wrap the tortilla into a burrito shape and allow the cheese to melt.

Other then the above mentioned about the beads staying in place, I found this bracelet and charm to be of the utmost quality and craftsmanship. This is a piece of jewelry that can be kept for many years and handed down to my children.  I absolutely love it!

Get Unjunked With Unreal Candy Review

Later, Nicky did some research online (to prove to his dad that candy isn’t so bad).  He discovered that his dad was right (for once).

It’s not that Nicky thought candy was healthy.  It’s that he didn’t know how bad it really was. What Nicky learned was that the worst parts of candy (like hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives) aren’t there to make it taste good.  They’re there to make it cheaper to produce.

Nicky had a hunch that without the junk, candy could taste better. With the help of his older brother Kris, and his dad, they set out to prove it."
