Game Day Footbal Recipe ~ Grilled Wings

I am so excited!!

So, college football kicks off this Thursday!  Woohoo! This is my favorite time of the year.  A time when we all get together to root on our favorite college team.  In our house there are several teams we follow, but Arkansas Razorbacks tops the list.  Woooo Pig Sooey! (Couldn't resist)

What is the best part aside from watching your favorite team win?  To me, good food comes to mind.  I am not sure why but when football season rolls around it somehow gives me the feeling of wanting to celebrate. Every weekend is a celebration at our house!

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some of our favorite foods that we chow down on during college football season.

Do you enjoy football season as much as we do?  What are some of your favorite game day recipes?

Here is one our favorite game-time chicken wing recipes.  This one has been posted before but I have updated the recipe.

Grilled Wings

Ingredients
  • 1 large family pack of wings (about 2 1/2 lbs.), cleaned, cut up.
  • 1 to 2 large bottles of your favorite BBQ, Hot or Buffalo Sauce
  • Large Pot for Boiling Wings
  • Grill, Gas or Charcoal
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Ranch Dressing or Blue Cheese Dressing
  • Aluminum Foil (To place on grill) (Optional)
Directions
  1. In a large cooking pot place prepared wings and cover with water. Salt and pepper the water to taste and heat to boiling.  Turn down heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.  Drain wings.  In a large bowl combine the wings with your sauce of choice and toss to coat.  Refrigerate one hour or for more flavor let them soak overnight.
  2. Heat grill on high.  To avoid a messy grill or wings falling through the grates, cover the grill with aluminum foil.  When grill is hot, cook wings in a single layer with space between them. Keep cover open so they don't scorch. Cook for 5-7 minutes to sear and turn over. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes. Small wings cook fast so keep watch over them so they don't burn. Since the wings have been precooked you are just wanting to brown them nicely.  If you wish, remove the wings and toss them again into sauce returning to the grill for 1 minute, turn for 1 minute longer.  Repeat this process at least two more times.  This creates a nice caramelized coating and keeps the inside moist.
  3. Set out with Ranch or Blue cheese dressing and enjoy the game!
