I have written several posts on our four-legged family member Snickers. What a character he is. At 12 1/2 years old he still looks and acts like a puppy with the exception of an occasional noticeable limp or wobble. Most people that come into contact with Snickers do not know he was paralyzed for over 6 months.
Two years ago he jumped off my oldest son's bed and hit his left hip on a wooden box. My son called and told me that Snickers couldn't get up. I rushed home and took him to the vet and after a couple of hours of torment on me and the dog, the veterinarian told me that it was a possibility that he would never walk again.
We decided that we would do everything possible to make his life as easy as we could. We decided to message and work his hip and legs to see if it would help. My husband was laying in the floor with him in about the 5th month and tickled his paw. Snickers kicked him. It was a small reflex but one that gave us hope. We continued to work with him and eventually he was able to stand on his own and walk. I took him in to the vet's for a follow up visit and she just about fell out to see him walk into the room.
Today he thinks he can run and jump like he used to, but the truth is the arthritis is starting to settle in. We will do whatever it takes to help to relieve his joint discomfort.
