My Kumon Study Smart Tip:

I remember when the kids would come through the door after school, the last thing on their minds were doing homework.  But we thought that since the day was fresh on their minds it would be best to dive right in.  Boy, were we wrong.  It always turned into a struggle trying to get the them to concentrate on what they were supposed to do and the frustrations would always turn the evening sour. Homework seemed more like a punishment to them.

Finally, I realized that they like myself were tired after a long day of work and school. We needed some downtime.  From that day forward our homework routine changed.  

When the kids came in from school, we would put their backpacks aside, and head to the kitchen table.  After making their favorite snacks we would gather around the table and play games and talk about their day.  By the time we were finished eating and playing, the kids were more relaxed and ready to do their homework.  Some days it took longer then others, but it was very important that they were ready.

It is easy to enter.  Just tell Kumon your best study tips in 80 words or fewer between September 12 and October 7, 2011. Attach an optional photo to show your child hard at work studying or to share your child’s special study space. A winner will be drawn every Friday during the contest and announced the following Monday. Enter early to be eligible for each weekly drawing.
