On every Father's Day when the kids were small, I would wake them up early and we would quietly go to the kitchen and make breakfast for their dad. Once breakfast was made and their homemade cards were in hand, they would take off down the hallway, bolt through the bedroom door and jump into bed yelling "Happy Father's Day!"
Those days are long gone, their cards are no longer homemade and if one of the boys were to bolt through the bedroom door and jump in the bed with their dad now, I am sure our bed would lay in ruins upon the floor.
Now that the boys are older they have figured out that Father's Day is for dad to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. We still make him a nice breakfast and then we usually make a trip to the fishing pond to wet a line. As our boys lives change, sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad, one thing remains constant and that is their dad's love for each one of them. My husband is a wonderful father to both boys and he has the patience that I cannot find within myself. This year I plan on showing him just how much he is appreciated.
