Spring Break ~ Let The Fun Begin

It is that time of the year for the kids in our state and most other states.  Time for the school districts that were fortunate enough not to have had a slew of snow days to have a break from studying, and homework.  The weather is slowly warming up and the trees are starting to bloom. 

Spring Break has finally come!

Now I know that for some parents, this means that the kiddos will once again be hanging out around the house singing the all-to-familiar song of "I'm bored!" "There's nothing to do!" 

My first thought was to tell them when they started the whining  "Um well, how about vacuuming, or cleaning the bathroom?  Your room hasn't been cleaned since 4 winters ago.  Oh, I know, how about mowing the lawn or cleaning out the inside of the car that you have spilt your french fries and drinks in?"

I want to say all these things..............but I don't.  Instead, my husband and I started several years back taking time from work to try to do something family oriented.  It does not always involve going out of town or leaving the state, but we do what we can to make the week for them more fun then my first imagined chore list.  Things that we know that they enjoy doing.

Our youngest will be 17 years old next month and  will be graduating high school next year so this will probably be our last year of Spring Break.   I am sure he would rather hang out with his friends for Spring Break his last year of high school then with his parents.

So, this year will be a week of camping, hiking, fly fishing and getting out on the lake in Kayaks so small that if you scratch it feels like you will tip over.  But that is okay, it is something he enjoys so we will as well.  And besides, I provide great entertainment when I accidentally hook myself, step in a fire ant bed, or fall in the water.........it is the least I can do.
