Love and Respect By Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

Based upon Ephesians 5:33 and extensive biblical and psychological research, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs reveals the power of unconditional love and unconditional respect and how husbands and wives can reap the benefits of marriage that God intended.

What is Love and Respect? We believe love best motivates a woman and respect most powerfully motivates a man. Research reveals that during marital conflict a husband most often reacts when feeling disrespected and a wife reacts when feeling unloved.  We asked 7,000 people this question: when you are in a conflict with your spouse or significant other, do you feel unloved or disrespected?  83% of the men said "disrespected."  72% of the women said, "unloved."  Though we all need love and respect equally, the felt need differs during conflict, and this difference is as different as pink is from blue!

My Thoughts
This book reflects on couples who have lost touch with each other in the fact that the wife does not feel the love that she should from her husband and the husband doesn't feel he gets the respect he deserves from the wife. In the Love and Respect Ministries they talk about that in order for the wife to be able to show her respect for her husband she must feel that he loves her and vice-versa.

As I have posted previously, my husband and I have been married for 24 years now and we enjoy each others company more everyday.  Yes, we have our ups and downs and yes we get on each others nerves from time to time, but isn't that what it is all about? Early in our marriage we would get lost in the communication barriers, but we both came to the conclusion that he cannot read my mind and it wasn't fair of me to expect him to.

In my opinion this book really was not what I expected. I felt at times that it focused way too much on the woman being more of the problem by not giving her man the respect he deserves.   I don't think one should have to feel respected to show love or feel loved to give respect.  My answer - Be respectful to each other and the rest falls into place.

Who would benefit from this book?  I think this book would be helpful for young couples just starting out or possibly older couples that maybe are caught up in the rut of feeling disrespected and unloved by each other.

**I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their Booksneeze bloggers program . I was not required to write a positive review and therefore, the book review is 100% my own opinion.
